  1. International Advanced Course in Liquid Interfaces, Drops and Sprays (LIDESP) (5-10th May, Darmstadt, Germany)

LIDESP is an International Advanced Course on the Interface, Drops and Liquid Sprays Physics, which is held every year in different locations around the world. Every year, depending on the venue, different modules of the program are taught by local experts, under the supervision of Host Directors, while the core part of the lecture plan is provided by three well-known and highly recognized experts in the field: Prof. Amirfazli, York University, Toronto, Canada, Prof. Bertola, University of Liverpool, UK, Prof. Marengo, University of Bergamo, Italy.

The course objective is to provide the participants with today’s detailed knowledge on the physics of drops and sprays based on recent research results and the most updated methods for the prediction of dynamic outcomes, heat transfer, wettability effects, and its applications to technological and industrial areas. Specific attention will be paid to the applications in life science, such as microdroplet management. Application to chemical processes will be dealt with special care in view of the industrial interest towards this component, while the very recent application of drop management in microscale, including microstructured surfaces will be treated in detail.

The course is addressed to scientists, professionals, company engineers, R&D managers and graduate students in the fields of Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine, Applied and Fundamental Sciences. This course is especially of interest to those dealing with phenomena involving drops and sprays, in order to get acquainted with the traditional background and the most recent developments of this discipline.

  2. COST Actions MP1106 and CM1101 Joint Training School on Particles at Liquid Interfaces: Fundamentals and Applications (2-5th April, Bonasolla, Italy)

The Training School is offered to motivated PhD Students and young researchers with the aim of providing an overview of the present state-of-the-art in such important and growing topics. Tutorial lectures will be given by leading specialists in the concerned fields, deepening in particular the physico-chemical and fundamental aspects, presenting specific experimental methodologies and examples of applications in fields, such as emulsions, foams, biological interfaces, new materials and chemical processes. Special poster-workshop sessions are also arranged, offering the participants the possibility to present and discuss their own work in a qualified scientific environment.

The School is open to max 25 PhD students and young researchers from the laboratories member of the above COST Actions. A comparable number of COST grants (max 600 €) are available. To apply for the participation and for the grant, please fill the application form and send it to: ts2014cost@ge.ieni.cnr.it. Further info will be available soon on the Training School website.
